In this article I will break down the top teams and players that are affected the most by VMI and ADI today.  Many of you might ask what is VMI and ADI is so below I have written a brief description of what they mean and how they affect baseball games.

Air Density Report w/ Cuse

Visual Memory Index aka VMI in baseball is used to track how players perform under different air density’s. The easiest way to explain this is that depending on the weather temperature, humidity, or air density the batters swing will be affected.  You might ask yourself how is that possible?  Have you ever tried to swing a bat in the winter compared to a humid summer day?  It’s not the same and VMI tracks each batters muscle memory to various weather conditions.  A batter’s muscle memory takes time to adjust to certain weather conditions.  When taking VMI into effect I avoid teams or players with a number less than -5 which simply can be explained as they haven’t been hitting pitches with the type of movement that they will face on that day.  As far as what’s good for teams or players, I try and target +5 or greater because they will be used to pitches with high movement and their Visual memory will be good.

Air Density Index aka ADI is very simple to explain.  It’s a scale that goes 0-100 and is affected by three things (Elevation, temperature, and Humidity).  The Air Density is important in baseball because it will let you know how much movement the baseball will have in that ballpark on that day.  The higher the ADI the more movement on the pitch.  Typical 60 is the number people use to decide if the pitcher’s movement will be good or bad.  The lower an ADI is from 60 the less movement the pitchers ball will have and the higher it is from 60 will show the increase in the pitcher’s ball movement to the batter’s eye.

Todays Top Pitchers per VMI/ADI

Chris Archer- Archer looks good tonight for a few reasons, obviously he has the talent to give you great upside on a 15-game slate.  The other thing is Toronto’s VMI of -5.20 indicates they should struggle tonight.  I always love using pitchers in TB because it favors pitching because of its dimensions and the ADI of 66.34 (Dome).  I like Archer tonight in all formats.

Jeff Samardzija –The Shark has let me down the last few times out but heres a few reasons I think he is in play tonight.  I anticipate Shark to be very chalky tonight so I like him in Cash games.  Tonight he gets a Brewers team that still should be feeling the effects of the Coors hangover.  The Coors hangover is real and from what I’ve seen it takes two games to get your team VMI back to being normal.

Danny Duffy– Duffy get the Rockies and as we mentioned above you want to keep targeting the offense’s that leave Coors.  The Rockies have a slate worst team VMI of -19.05 so if you want to take a GPP flyer on Duffy there is enough value in doing so tonight.

Top Teams to use for hitting per ADI/VMI

  • Philadelphia Phillies-  The Phillies have an interesting team VMI of +6.73 so it’s something that sparks my interest with their low salary’s.  They do have a double header today so let’s see how they perform in the 1st game and if they put up 5+ runs I will have some Phillies exposure tonight.

  • Baltimore Orioles – Similar to last night the conditions are great in Baltimore for hitting tonight and the orioles have a favorable team VMI of +3.02. The Orioles will face off against Blackburn that doesn’t give up a lot of fly balls as mentioned on the podcast last night but that won’t scare me off of the orioles today.

  • Houston Astros– I love the Astros tonight I think they are ready to explode offensively again. The Astros look great tonight with a team VMI of +3.73 going up against Tanner Roark.
