Happy 4th of July everyone!!! Yesterday’s articles were pure fire here at WiseTake and we hope you cashed, if you did remember to tweet out those winners. Today’s Main slate is early but we get 9 games spread out over a 6-hour span. Let us look and see who’s been hot…. or not.
Hot Pitchers
Michael Fulmer ($9,800-DK/$9,700-FD) – Fulmer enters today’s slate as one of the hotter pitchers on the slate and to reward him he gets the Giants offense that we all know has been terrible this year. In Fulmer’s last 2 outings over 15.2 innings he has given up a combined 3 runs while averaging almost a strikeout per inning. Fulmer also ranks up there in the past month of batted ball distance, in the past month he has only averaged 179.6 feet per swing. Although his K upside should be lower facing the Giants he should continue his upward trend.
Jimmy Nelson ($9,200-DK/$9,000-FD) – Nelson has been awesome in his past 3 starts (21 innings, 15 Hits, 7 Runs, and 29 K’s). His strikeouts are what has me salivating since he is going against the Orioles today that tend to strikeout a bunch. In Nelson’s last 3 starts his K% is 35.1% which is way above his 2017 average of 25.7%. Nelson looks to continue his dominance at home today where he brings his 2.64 ERA at Miller Park.
Jose Urena ($6,300-DK/$7,200-FD) – When looking at Urena’s game log over the past 6 games it was surprising to see such consistency. In his past 6 starts other than the one bad performance vs. the Diamondbacks at Chase Field, Urena has pitched very well. In those 5 games, he has averaged (6 IP, 2 ER, and 4 K’s) and has been throwing his slider much more often than at the beginning of the season which might be part of his recent success. He ranks among the top 20% in Exit velocity and hard contact for pitchers over the past month.
Cold Pitchers
Chris Archer ($10,700-DK/$9,900-FD) – Archer started this season as one of the top pitchers in baseball but his last two performances have changed that perception for me. What appeals to most of us rostering him in DFS is his “K” upside. All of Archers struggles this year have been when he hasn’t been able to get 5 strikeouts or more. Archers been getting hit hard and the batters exit velocity has been up of recent with Archer. Only time will tell if the Archer of old will return today.
Kyle Gibson ($4,800-DK/$6,300-FD) – What we have here is a gas can alert!!!! Gibson has just been flat out terrible this year (4-6, 6.11 ERA). Gibson isn’t striking anyone out and his BB% is up and to add some more fuel to the fire he has one of the highest hard contacts in baseball at 37.6%. Gibson is a guy you will want to target today.
Matt Cain ($5,500-DK/$6,600-FD) – It’s painful to watch Matt Cain pitch, he just doesn’t have it anymore. I consider Cain to be a better version of Bartolo Colon and we all know how good he is. Cain has showed some signs of being a MLB pitcher but all of them have been in SF which is a pitcher’s ballpark. Today Cain is pitching in Detroit and his road ERA is an atrocious 8.11 this year. Cain is also going to an AL ballpark today, so with the DH added in make sure you have some DET bats because Cain won’t last long today.
