The Pitching Prospectus w/ @CK_013 – 8.10.17

Previously known as the GPP Pitching Prospectus, this article will now cover pitchers for both cash games and GPPs. I spend a majority of my day researching pitchers so I figured in addition to my thoughts on GPP flyers, why not list the guys I like in cash as well.

To be clear I typically don’t make my final choices until moments before the games start. This is because I am always checking the WiseTake Pitching model to see what opposing line-up numbers look like. I do however have a short list of pitchers that I am interested in for the day and will be sharing that with you.

The Pitching Prospectus w/ CK013

Slate Notes: We have some pretty good pitchers going tonight but on DraftKings your going to have to pay for them.

Cash Games

Higher Cost Options –

  1. Jacob deGrom – On FanDuel search for a cash game pitcher most likely stops here. I prefer deGrom at home but it’s the Phillies and deGrom is coming off of a rough outing so I’d expect him to bounce back. deGrom will be my top cash option tonight on both sites.
  2. Danny Salazar – Salazar is a close second to deGrom for me today and if you want to roll with him over deGrom in your cash games, I get it. He’s looked solid since returning from the DL and the Ray’s we know are among the top strikeout teams in the league. Still, deGrom will be my FanDuel guy and my SP1 but if there is enough value bats tonight Salazar may end up being my SP2.
  3. James Paxton – Why is Paxton so low? The Angels just don’t strikeout enough. Paxton does seem fairly safe but I like strikeout upside and I am concerned with how much Paxton has here. I think Paxton is better suited for a GPP pivot from deGrom but because I do understand his safety, he made the list.

Lower Cost  Options –

  1. Lance Lynn – This is for DraftKings only where we need two pitchers. To be clear if the value opens up like it did the other day (Kluber/Sale slate) I may pay up for both SP spots but if there is not enough value I am comfortable with I will certainly consider Lynn due to his consistency. The Royals don’t K a ton but Lynn doesn’t really get shelled too often either. I think Lynn is worth strong consideration on DK in cash at his price if the bats are too difficult to peace together with deGrom and Salazar.

GPP

Higher Cost Options –

  1. Jacob deGrom – On FanDuel search for a cash game pitcher most likely stops here. I prefer deGrom at home but it’s the Phillies and deGrom is coming off of a rough outing so I’d expect him to bounce back. deGrom will be my top cash option tonight on both sites.
  2. James Paxton – Some people may play this guy in cash but he has a match-up against a team that ranks near the bottom of the league in strikeouts and are mostly right-handed. Still, I think in tournaments he is a very interesting pivot off deGrom in GPPs. Paxton has elite stuff and get strikeout anyone on any given day, he has upside for sure and the Angels were K’ing a bunch against Bundy and Gausman.
  3. Brad Peacock – *Monitor Weather* –  Peacock has upside but isn’t safe especially since the White Sox have been heating up. Still, they provide high K-upside and Peacock’s ownership could very low if the weather concerns remain. Very risky with weather.

Cheaper Options –

  1. Tyler Skaggs – Kid has shown K-upside and he’s also very cheap. The Mariners aren’t known to strikeout too much but if we get a good ump here this kid may have a shot. The total in this game has dropped and we are seeing some reverse line movement against the Mariners here. (Long Shot).
  2. Anthony Banda – The Dodgers are good but they have been striking out a lot lately. Banda had some K-upside in the minors and while this is another long-shot, the Dodgers can be picked on by lefties. This guy won’t have too much ownership and while he may give up a bomb or two, he is very cheap tonight and should get some Ks. (Long Shot).
